Mission Statement
The IRSC Interior Design program’s mission is to prepare and inspire future designers to be accountable, ethical, critical thinkers, and effective problem-solving professionals in the fields of commercial, residential, home staging, and kitchen and bath design by offering an up-to-date, distinctive, and superior learning environment incorporating real-world experiences.
The mission is fulfilled through the accomplishments of the following goals:

To sustain an up-to-date design education, the program emphasizes design-related issues preparing learners to learn critique and adapt problem-solving skills for use in both the local and global 21st century workforce.
Objectives:
To sustain an up-to-date design education, the program emphasizes; 1) design knowledge of theories, methods and applications from diverse perspectives; 2) appreciation of peoples’ penchants, needs, and behavior in their environments; 3) an integration of hands-on learning; and 4) an entrepreneurial perspective of the design business.
Objectives:
To employ a superior learning environment encouraging creative exchange of ideas between students and faculty in high quality setting.

To sustain an up-to-date design education, the program emphasizes design-related issues preparing learners to learn critique and adapt problem-solving skills for use in both the local and global 21st century workforce.
Objectives:
- To provide an Associates of Science program meeting the standards of the Florida State Department of Education; a prerequisite for interior design licensure.
- To provide curriculum containing projects focusing on trending subjects such as environmental issues, green design, building codes, and social media.
- To promote attainment, integration, and utilization of technology, problem solving techniques, and critical thinking skills in curriculum for prepared entry-level interior design position competition.
- To involve students in community-based design projects linking community service and providing real-world experiences.

- To sustain curriculum emphasizing functional aesthetically pleasing environments.
- To note the difference yet maintain a balanced emphasis of residential, commercial, staging, and kitchen and bath design.
- To enhance and enrich the interior design learning experience through community and not-for-profit projects.
- To sustain and strengthen the linkage between the interior design curriculum and the co-curricular interior design club (Annual Interior Designer Tag Sale for text scholarships and program enhancement).

- To acquire multiple design perspectives through course instruction and guest speakers including practicing designers and building professionals.
- To integrate the faculty real-world experience in the learning process.
- To provide small classes delivering a more personalized one-on-one faculty-student contact.
- To emphasize social conscience and ethics in the curriculum, and encourage the testing of the student’s own actions and conduct.
- To enhance the reputation of the Interior Design Profession and instruction through excellence in teaching to include teaching recognition, professional acknowledgement, and personal development.

Objectives:
- To deepen learning through hands-on opportunities, field trips, and real-world outside projects brought into the classroom.
- To sustain two different internships by the end of the design program.
- To engage design professionals in design projects critiques.
- To effectively communicate to the public and design professionals at regional and national levels, the capability and contributions of our interior design program.
